You know you're dependent upon Internet when you resort to dial-up!!bluemel4 wrote:I get a little panicky when the internet goes down in my house. A lot of stuff I do during the day is online. My brother and I joked that if we could not find wifi we would resort to dial up because we are so addicted to the internet.
HA HA, just messing with you.

Makes me wonder how we ever did anything without the internet. I was a teenager when the internet became a big deal... uh oh... My age is showing.zeldas_lullaby wrote:Tell me about it! I seriously can't get by without internet. On top of those things, I use it as a resource. Like, what hours is someplace open? What is the definition of a word? (Heaven help me if I should have to open a dictionary!!)

One thing that has benefitted me is book reviews. When I was a teenager, if I read a self-help book or a New Age book that made me feel inadequate, there was no recourse but to believe the author knew more than I did. Now, we have multiple book reviews available on the Internet, which fosters critical thinking about these things and helps us find community when a book is hurtful.

That is a great way to look at it. I know I have read books that have left me feeling bad or were just not that great. It is wonderful to have a community to talk about those type of books or just books in general. I have also found a lot of new books through GoodReads as well as on these forums.zeldas_lullaby wrote:Oh, goodness. I was in college when we started using it. And at that time, it was nascent--AOL, chat rooms, huge box computers (no tablets), etc. I guess I'm older than you are! But yeah, seriously, how did we survive before Internet??
