So few stay because the rules for this forum are crazy complicated. I was enjoying being a part of this community but I will be bowing out. I've written two reviews and it made my score go down and I'm frustrated because every-time I turn around I'm penalized for something. It's no longer enjoyable to me.

Can you not hang around for the book and off topic threads where there are some decent conversations going on? I agree the reviewing rules seem quite complicated for a forum this size maybe this will be streamlined if others feel the same but do stick around we hate to lose members. I dont much care about my score now that I am able to review books (a free book is perfect payment). My score has fluctuated some but not much. I suppose once my reviews have been looked at by the editor Ill know if its hard or not. I didnt seem that difficult to me, but i try to be a stickler for the rules. Hope you stick around.

I don't think the forum rules are complicated. Most of them are based on good common sense. Then there's the few ones that are details but I think they're essential if we want to see writers taking this community seriously enough to actually pay for trusted reviewers' opinions.

cmp librarian nooo! :( There are a lot of good reasons to stay! So many nice people! *pouts* I hope you decide to stay.

And then like Himmelslicht I don't feel the rules are too complicated and a lot of them seem like common sense. But I could understand how it could seem overwhelming at first. In my experience when I am confused or do something goofy there are people quick to help me. Mistakes are kind of normal and I don't give myself a hard time when I make them... or I try not to. hehehe. I do general freak out for a moment but it passes and I just try my best to do better.

I've also had great luck with my reviews being published... it just takes some time. I don't think new reviewers coming in realize there is a lot of behind the scenes going on after we submit our review. I think there is just time before they get to it (since there are a lot of others also submitting reviews)... communications with the author.... editing and whatnot.. and then I think they might space out the releases a bit. So they all get some air time and none get lost in a sea of new reviews published all at the same time. But I honestly have no idea I just theorize. hehehe But it does take some time. I think time between submission and getting published mine have ranged from 3 days to two weeks or something. And they have been published in a different order than what I submitted them in... which further implies that there is some discussion going on that they need to wait for feedback on before they can continue toward publishing them. Plus over the holidays and whatnot... people get busy. So it might have been slower over the last month maybe?

It takes away from one's " reading time ", either you cut down DRASTICALLY as i have, or you choose which is top priority, POSTING / SCHMOOZING on here or READING? which is after all the reason we join in the first place... :)

And also what you said in the last paragraph.
I submitted a review 3 days ago. I'm still waiting but I'm not trying to annoy anyone because I know that new people trying to review books appear all the time and many lose patience and never come again. But everything worth waiting for takes time. I wouldn't be too worried about that.
Meanwhile I'll just keep reviewing books because I love to read, ehe.
