Re: Really weird phobias. . .
That used to be a fear of mine as well when someone takes blood from me. But I had to get it done for the first time a few months ago and I was dreading it the whole time but the woman was really nice and kept talking to me, distracting me so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be although I couldn't look at the blood they took out which would have freaked me out.Maud Fitch wrote:The veins in my arms don't worry me too much until the phlebotomist (a trained individual who draws blood from a live person) has to take a medical sample. I go "aagghh" and double over clutching my arms tightly around my body until my adult self defeats my squeamish inner child. I breathe deeply, stand up straight then lie down before I keel over. The whole process isn't as bad as my imagination tells me.

The other thing that annoys me, but it's not really a phobia, is being wakened up by the alarm clock ... I just hate that & it fecks up my whole day. I have myself programmed (!) to wake about 30secs before the alarm is due to go off & it nearly always works except occasionally and then I'm like a bear with a shore head for the rest of the day. I don't mind if its the radio but if it's the alarm clock![]()
I've gotta say, though (and I probably have before)...my friend Theresa totally freaked out about the idea of rats as pets, until she met my Lux (R.I.P.). Luxie just looked at her, and it was all, "AWWWW! I didn't know they were soooo cuuuuute!" after that. But then, I know people who won't even come into my house, just on the off-chance that the rats might've escaped. I wouldn't push a rat on anyone. As long as they do my bidding....BWAHAHAHAHAAA
I'd sleep for days, if not for my alarm clocks. What gets to me is the way SOME people have set their alarm an hour earlier than they absolutely have to get up, and then hit 'snooze' over and over and over...not you, Gannon. But a certain Rooster may find himself with an alarm clock jammed into an uncomfortable place if he keeps it up.
"Camel Girls" give me the major oogs. I've only seen pictures, but I have a hard time with those, even. And why are they always girls?

You stay here with us where you are safe & the creepies can't get youStephenKingman wrote:^ @ Gannon, I know its a bit unlikely that snakes and spiders would cover me if i were on a beach or at home in Oz but my point is that my phobia is so bad that even knowing they are in the vicinity is enough to make me panic as i wouldnt know how to react if i saw one of them slithering or crawling towards me, im sure i would run but run where as they are everywhere in the environment so my only option is not going to Oz until or unless i get hypnotherapy.![]()

You are right I should be more understanding. Phobias are terrible things I could pick up a snake or spider as long as they were not venomous but put me in a small confined space and in seconds I am panicking to the point of a heart attack. Don't even mention the word caves. I even find it hard to watch movies with caves.StephenKingman wrote:^ @ Gannon, I know its a bit unlikely that snakes and spiders would cover me if i were on a beach or at home in Oz but my point is that my phobia is so bad that even knowing they are in the vicinity is enough to make me panic as i wouldnt know how to react if i saw one of them slithering or crawling towards me, im sure i would run but run where as they are everywhere in the environment so my only option is not going to Oz until or unless i get hypnotherapy.![]()

Really, you just made me think of it. Just stay out of my bed, and it's all good. In fact, that'd be a good policy for everyone in general...I'm not very nice in the morning. I'll have some flyers printed up, yeah! "Sleeping in my bed may be hazardous to your health"Gannon wrote:Tralala wrote: I'd sleep for days, if not for my alarm clocks. Nah. Sleep is overrated.
Dunno if this is a phobia, exactly, but I put a lot of time and effort into avoiding the "Trixie" label. To the point where I can't even take it as a joke. I've got a pretty good sense of humor regarding most things about myself, but that ain't one of them.

When I saw your repost I felt guilty. Knee-jerk reaction, I think. Smack my caboose and call me Trixie.Gannon wrote:

OMG, Gannon. You just reminded me of another of my worst phobias - underground, under tonnes of rock, under hundreds of hectares of earth in a small cave or long tunnel. When travelling, if there is a tourist attraction like catacombs with a billboard which says the word 'underground', I turn and run!Gannon wrote:.....put me in a small confined space and in seconds I am panicking to the point of a heart attack. Oh Maud, I broke out into a sweat just reading your post, I am glad that I am not the only one on this site who has bad claustrophobia. It scares the hell out of me. I think it is the fear of being trapped underground without being able to get back to the surface. I have to get off this topic right now, I am freaking out man.Maud Fitch wrote:OMG, Gannon.
