I don't personally think I would get a quote tattooed on me. I would get sick of looking at the same words all of the time. Plus they say that pictures are worth a thousand words, right? Two of my tattoos are homages to my favorite writers. I have a nightgaunt in honor of HP Lovecraft, and I have a raven for Edgar Allan Poe. My other tat is a "storm in a teacup" it has tentacles, which is a little nod to Lovecraft, and it's nautical, a homage to WH hodgson, although it has some personal meaning too. I think I'd like to get a beetle for Kafka's metamorphosis at some point. I really like literary-themed tattoos!

I have several tattoos, but no book quotes. Book quotes are tough because a lot of the time my favorite parts of books are long passages. The best I can come up with is from my favorite writer, Voltarine De Cleyre, who wrote, "In everything that lives, if one looks searchingly, is limned the shadow line of an idea...

Although, the point of that essay, I think, was also better captured by Tupac in his poem The Rose That Grew From The Concrete, so even if I would go in that direction for a tattoo I'd probably base it off that poem instead.

For the same reason, I think overall music and poetry would actually be more reflected in tattoos than book quotes. But it's fun to think what you would choose from a book if you had to.

I want to get "34:4" tattooed somewhere. Maybe on my ankle. Psalms 34:4 is my favorite bible verse: "I sought the Lord and he answered me, and delivered me from my fears."

I would probably get "Fear doesn't shut you down, It wakes you up." I would get this so it would remind me to never back down from a challenge.

While we're talking about our favorite Bible verses, mine is:

Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Would that be too long for a tattoo?

No...but since the Bible prohibits tattoos...it would be fairly ironic. :D

Wow, I had no idea!! Well, I probably engage in a lot of behaviors that are prohibited by the Bible. ;-)

The quote from Harry Potter said by Albus Dumbledore: "Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light."

Not really from a book, but a poem is close, right? "And miles to go before I sleep."

Following missbookworm, I've always loved Albus Dumbledore's quote, "It does not do to dwell in dreams and forget to live." I used to get so wrapped up in books because it was so much better than in real life, I missed out on a lot of memories I could have made back in High School.

I can't think of any serious ones right now...but how about this for a laugh:

Call me Ishmael.
Pronouns: She/Her
