This forum has a good number of categories, and whoever conceived of the forum certainly was on the right track in striving for something of great promise. Unfortunately, I've noticed that very few forummers are online at any one time, and the quaity of the postings are a decidedly mixed bag.

I've been here just over 2 weeks. I hope to remain as long as I can... to learn from others and also to contribute in the spirit of sharing.
Well i hope you stay as well :D

You are right, the quality of the postings are essential to the quality of the overall forum. The problem lies not with the threads and categories, some of which are very interesting and spark great debates, but with the transient nature of the members and the nonsense spam that gets through with lax moderation, but hopefully we as members can make this community a better place.
Thank you!

I think if we have a core of a dozen good, active members, this forum can be revived and more and more new members would be encouraged to stay longer and enlarge the pool of quality postings so that all will benefit..

I will do my bit here.

I know for me, I come and go depending on how busy my real life is. I was really active for a while. Then I started taking a class at a local community college and between homework and my full-time job, I didn't have much time left over for the forum. But now that the class is coming to an end I am spending more time here.

One thing that bums me out is that we don't have a "Book of the Month" to discuss any more. As far as I can tell, the last one was in January.

Yea i noticed that about "Book of the Month", which depressingly enough is the reason i got on this forum in the first place, but still i have no intentions on leaving. I hope none of you do either. :(

The administrator/moderator appears to be MIA, and it seems that this forum is now running on auto-pilot. Hence there's a degree of spamming that has obviously put some serious people off... A real pity!

My guess is that not everyone reads the same book at the same time. What if i was reading a really old book that was discussed in the form years ago? The standard practice in forums is not to add to threads that haven't been touched for years.

I've personally posted answers to outstanding questions years after. I found the thread when I was looking for it on google. After lots of frustrating research, I found the answer and joined the forum simply to post the answer so others can find it in the future.... only to be told not to post to old topics.

Forums are like circles of friends, you always need a good, core set of stable ones to function. Stability in any forum is required alongside interesting, new discussion. Hope to stay here for a while as it looks like a nice place.

Because of StephenKingman's sexist posts! :P (Just kidding, honest!)

In fact, another of Stephen's posts inspired me to write the Guess who wrote this thread. Please visit it, and please reply.

People do not stay on this forum because there is not enough human interaction. We are human. Nearly all of us need and value social contact.

On another forum, a group of friends are swopping in-jokes. Why don't we just read a cartoon website, where the jokes will be much funnier? Well, a joke written just for us has a social value beyond the wit of the joke. And when a friend recognises your creative talent in making a joke, there is a social reward that gives personal satisfaction.

So, please queue up with your witty and/or thoughtful replies to the Guess who wrote this thread. The sooner you reply, the sooner you get your social rewards!

I think the cycle continues to this day, years after this original post. I'm curious as to how many "active" members there are right now.

I don't know how many members are active, but those who are do produce a lot of good activity at least! It is fun on here! :)

I'm new here, and sometimes don't feel like, "I'm in the club." Otherwise, I have a job with crazy hours so I post when I can. Sometimes a few days, or even a week can go by because I get exhausted and this isn't the top of my to do lists. However, I enjoy posting when I can. :)

If you are on here then you ARE part of "the club" as you called it. :) This is for everyone who joins and are on here for the right reasons! Some post more than others, but ALL belong on here because we constructively add to discussions and the fun that is had on here! Don't ever think there are levels of importance in regards to people or posts on here. We are all in this together! :D 8) I hope you truly enjoy the time you get to spend on here! Make the most of it that you can!
