Personally I find myself driving to the beach and staring at the waves to clear my mind. Immersing yourself in nature seems to do the trick.

That is a very peculiar way to relax! Kudos to you for being comfortable enough to be able to do that!anomalocaris wrote:Oddly enough, these days when I really need to destress, I go out and spend time with rattlesnakes. I enjoy their company, and love photographing them. I don't handle them, because they're not the least bit interested in being handled, but when you're working in close proximity with them, you need to be very relaxed (or you'll make them nervous) and very focused (so you don't crowd them, or fail to notice the other one 6 inches away on the den). You can't be thinking about where the rent is going to come from, or how you're going to meet that deadline. You can only be exactly where you are, completely focused on the moment and the snake in front of you. Exactly the same thing people who meditate learn to do. Of course, I don't recommend running around on rattlesnake dens or walking up to rattlesnakes without learning about them first, preferably with an expert, to begin with. They just happen to be my thing, but you can get the same benefit watching any species -- even pigeons or sparrows in the city.

I find taking a hot bath and reading a good book with my stand fan on to really help me relax. Anytime I am in my bedroom whether it is cleaning anything really, I will turn my fan on and the cool air and the sound is like an instant relaxer for me. Long walks in the spring and summer are good also.
