Today was the first day of work. It's going to be a long summer, that's for sure!
Hey now, my Dad raised us working as janitor, though they don't use that name for it often anymore. Work is work. What you do is no reflection on your intelligence, it's how much effort you put into it that does. And pride. A job well done, be it big or small, menial or otherwise, is what's important! Never, ever, be ashamed of any honest job!

Yeah, I know. Work is work. It just sounded much easier as I was reading Walt Whitman's I Hear America Signing (google it if you haven't read it; it's quite short). In fact, I read that everyday to keep me motivated. Though I'm quite useful for moving heavy stuff, I'm an academic (or at least I think myself to be one). I think I'll feel better after my first paycheck.

This is my first [official] job ever, so it's going to take some getting used to. I can honestly say that I respect what janitors do now (I have much respect for your father if he worked as one).

One thing's for sure: this job has done a lot to minimize my internet addiction.

As suggested by my screen name, I am a lawn boy. My wife and I own a lawn and landscape maintenance company. I am not in the office much. I am on the lawns, spraying, mowing etc. It is not glamorous, but it pays the bills, and I get winter off so I can read tons. I do audiobooks on the ipod too, it isn't as good as reading, but I usually knock out about 8-10 hrs/day listening to books.
