No thanks. My father died of liver damage, and I guess it's from that experience as to the reason I don't drink. The thing is: he wasn't a drunk or anything related to an excessive drinker, he just drank a lot. Not to mention that liver damage runs in that side of my family. He would mix coke and jack on Sundays, and I'd sit next to him and watch football. I could smell the musky aura of the drink and it made me nauseous.

Y'know how some childhood experiences influence your life forever? That's my indelible impacter from when I was a kid. Really, my father gave me many wise morals when I was young. I've applied those morals to my life since, and have been a better person for it.

I know what you mean, thank you for sharing this story..its very heartfelt.
My dad drank..coke and jack too..it was his favorite. But my dad and mom always gave me good morals to live by, and like you I've applied those ever since. :)

I will occasionally have wine with dinner, or maybe one or two drinks if I am out with friends, but I am not a huge drinker. It is not good for you, and I like to set a good example for my daughter as well.

I love wine (and very dry sherry). Nice wine is an absolute delight. But as always each to their own.

My father and my maternal grandfather were both alcoholics. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a drink myself from time to time. I am not them, I do not follow their patterns.

Alcoholism runs in my family and I have a fear that I will turn out just like them so i try to stay away from alcohol but that is very difficult in college. i'll drink once in a while but that i normally when I am at a family function; wedding, birthday parties or yes, even funerals. my parents think that I am responsible enough to make my own decisions so they are okay with the fact that I only drink once in a while so they don't care if i do it in front of them. its strange im 19 years old and i get drunk with my family. they are bad influences on me. lol. jk.

I drink with my family, too. I don't get drunk, but I do drink occasionally with them. But then again, the legal age for drinking here is 19, so I've been drinking legally for 4 years.
