Re: The Quote Game

Post by Tralala »

Mel Gibson! HAHAHA....William Wallace. A noble Scotsman, he! My ancestors were of the not-quite-as-noble variety. I've no idea if that's true, but it wouldn't surprise me. I did some research on our clan as part of a birthday present for my father last year, and found out that "we"--the McBains--have a memorial on the banks of Loch Ness. Where the monster is.
On that note, one of my favorites: "Every woman is supposed to have the same set of motives, or else to be a monster."
How perfectly goddamned delightful it all is, to be sure.

George Eliot!! I recognise the quote from somewhere in the depths of my mind.

Ok, now..... "Never was anything great achieved without danger." Who said this?

The one and only Machiavelli I do believe

Now this is a great quote IMO but a bit obscure, have a go ....

'The dreams of empire lure the hears of kings - and so men die'
We fade away, but vivid in our eyes
A world is born again that never dies.

It is a good one, I like it very much as well. It sounds like something from the crusades. Is it Saladin? :)

It's on the fly leaf of a book I'm delving into from time to time & it's credited to Corporal G W Driscoll, Burma 1944 ... warned it was obscure but it is a terrific quote nonetheless.

Does that mean I win a prize? :o

Nice work Fran. I think that is the first quote that nobody has been able to get(even after googling, in my case). It is indeed a great quote, little bit hard to work into a modern day conversation but I am going to try. :D Your prize,as stated at the beginning of this post is ah, err, I just checked and there is no prize. :(

How about....

HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS. IF I REALIZE I'M INSANE, THEN I'M OK WITH IT. I'M NOT DANGEROUS INSANE.

I refuse to answer, on moral grounds.

Fran, I could give you approximately 5,000 fake rats....why is it that when people find out you collect something, they have to buy you....well, 5,000 of 'em?

That would be Charlie Sheen if I am not mistaken - actor in Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4.

Hey, be careful! If you say his name too many times, he'll come out of your mirror and steal your intelligence!

Oliver Goldsmith. But I admit, I had to look that one up.

I've got this one on the dry-erase board in my office:
"If to be ignorant were as safe to be wise, no one would be wise."

Herbert Spencer....a fine old social Darwinist. Was, rather, when he was alive.
Sorry, I was off losing my voice AGAIN.
