Bighuey wrote:Hey Swing, I found a synopsis of Ordet in one of my old movie guides. It says, "A fundamentalist preacher clashes with a family whose faith surpasses his own." its from 1955, directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer. The stars are, Henrik Malberg, Emil Hass Christensen. I dont know where you could find a copy, you might check with turnerclassicmovies.com. they sometimes have those movies on dvd for sale. Its a good show, not predictable a very different storyline. :D I know, it dosent look like a rasberry button, I wouldnt have known the difference until you told me.
Okay, thank you, I'll look for it :)

Hard to choose after so many years of being an avid filmgeek. Probably Leone's Once Upon a Time in America. Utterly destroys me every single time. Close second would be Clayton's The Innocents, but it depends on the mood, really.

Once Upon a time in America is one great movie. I didnt think anyone even heard of it except me. Being in Europe, you probably saw the uncut version which they is 10 times better than the American cut version. Did you ever read the book it was based on, called the Hoods? The book was great too.I like most of Sergeio Leone's films, especially Once Upon a Time in the West.

Oh man is that the movie with Michael J Fox. I love that movie.

My favourite would have to be "The Crow". Poor old Brandon Lee, he was sooooo good.
Bruce Lee WOULD of been proud of him...

Yes, the uncut version is the only one I know. Can't imagine it being any different, nor do I want it to be different. It's perfect, just as it is. Yeah, over here it's not that known neither. Such a shame, as I believe it to be even better than The Godfather in certain aspects. Haven't read the novel yet, but I guess I will somewhere in the future. Leone's great. A truly special individual with a unique approach towards filmmaking. Glad to meet a fellow fan.

Youre right about the Godfather, I read the book first but I was very dissapointed in the movie. Leone made some fantastic films. I saw the Fist full of Dollars movies when they first came out in 67, I thought there was nothing like them. I especially like Ennio Morricones soundtrack music, nothing like that had ever been in a movie before. I had a vhs tape about Leone's film careear, but I lost it in one of my moves. I wish I still had it.

You saw those when they first came out? Damn.. I envy you, must have been a life-altering experience. As I was born in 1987, I missed that particular event. Morricone is, of course, simply brilliant. I would like to add that I really adore the Godfather trilogy, but I just like Once Upon a Time in America better. It's more personal to me. I feel like watching it again just now. That's how good it is.

I've heard this and I remember not being happy about who was going to be the Crow. Oh yeah, Bradley Cooper, the guy from Unlimited and The Hangover. I've nothing against the guy but I'd rather see them pick someone younger. I just don't see this guy in a punk band.

As for favorite movies, well most of the movies I really enjoy are Asian. To be more precise movie from the actor Shintaro Katsu, Toshirô Mifune and Nemuri Kyoshirō all have made some of the most exciting samurai movies.

I guess my favorite movie would be "The Seven Samurai" directed by Akira Kurasawa.

Leone had a lot of imitators but none were as good as he was. But there was one spaghetti western from that era that I enjoyed, it was They Call me Trinity. It was comical in a weird sort of way.

I won't argue that Leone has done some amazing work but you can't deny that Sam Pekinpah made great westerns.

Yes, Peckenpah did. In fact Leone gave him some kind of a silent tribute in his movie My Name is Nobody. In the one scene where Henry Fonda was looking for his brothers grave there was a headstone with the name Sam Peckenpah on it.
