This book? Yoh. It felt like someone cracked open my chest, scooped out all the hidden feelings I don’t talk about, and turned them into words. It’s like reading the softest parts of your soul in poetry form. M.R. Avis didn’t just write — they felt, and I felt every line right back.

Some poems made me pause and just breathe, like they were speaking to wounds I forgot I had. Others? They hit me like, “Hey, you’re not alone in this feeling.” That part? Priceless.

It wasn’t all perfect though — some pieces felt like déjà vu, like I’d read them before in other books or captions, but they were still written beautifully, no lie.

What I loved most is how honest it felt. No fluff, no sugarcoating — just raw thoughts from someone who clearly knows what it means to feel deeply and not always be okay, but still keep going.

Would I read it again? 100%. Would I recommend it to anyone trying to piece themselves together? Absolutely.

Memoirs of a Management Consultant by Franco Guazzoni is an enlightening autobiographical account spanning over fifty years of Italian management consulting, from the 1960s through the early 2000s. Guazzoni reflects on his tenure at leading firms such as Olivetti, General Electric, Cegos, MIDA, Ernst & Young, and Coreconsulting, tracing both industry milestones and his personal evolution in the boardroom and beyond .

Guazzoni’s prose is imbued with urbanity and subtle irony, which animates technical discussions about organizational change, leadership strategies, and market dynamics. He intersperses professional insights with colorful anecdotes—ranging from an adventurous whale hunt and a perilous duel to spirited football matches and cycling excursions—that underscore the human elements behind corporate decisions . This blend transforms what could be a dry chronology into a compelling narrative.

The book’s chronological structure effectively maps Guazzoni’s career progression, though it occasionally feels episodic as each chapter focuses on distinct firms or projects. His discussions on how consulting methodologies evolved—introducing lean management, digital transformation, and strategic workshops—anchor the memoir in broader industry trends, making it useful for readers tracking consulting history. Additionally, Guazzoni’s portrayal of mentorship and team dynamics provides a nuanced view of leadership that transcends mere business success.

Among the most valuable elements are his candid reflections on failure and success. He shares strategic missteps—lost bids, client conflicts—and the deliberate choices that led to major turnarounds. These stories offer actionable takeaways for consultants, managers, and entrepreneurs seeking inspiration and guidance.

While occasional Italian expressions add cultural texture, a more consistent translation approach would enhance clarity for international audiences. A tighter edit in a few mid-career chapters could also streamline recurring themes.

Overall, Memoirs of a Management Consultant excels as both a memoir and a leadership manual. Its engaging style, rich professional insights, and genuine warmth earn it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended for anyone curious about the human stories behind corporate corridors and the evolution of consulting in Italy.

Mystics of Fortune by Mike J. Carlozzi is an enchanting epic fantasy set in a Venetian-inspired city-state where the art of prophecy determines the fate of nations. I picked up this novel intrigued by its premise of secret diviners wielding power behind gilded masks. From the first chapter, Carlozzi immerses you in a world of hidden guilds, political intrigue, and the tantalizing question of whether destiny can be rewritten.

The plot follows Aurelia, a humble scribe whose life changes when she inherits the Sight—the ability to glimpse possible futures—after her mentor’s mysterious death. Recruited into the clandestine Order of the Veiled Fate, she must master cryptic rituals, decipher elusive visions, and uncover a traitor bent on using prophecy to ignite war. Alongside her, the stoic Diviner Lucien and the cunning Court Matron Valeria offer both guidance and rivalry. While the richly detailed mystic rites sometimes lead to info-heavy passages, these moments deepen the lore and underscore the weight of every revealed truth.

Carlozzi’s prose is lyrical yet precise. He paints moonlit canals and opulent council chambers with such vividness that you can almost hear the whisper of silk robes and clinking crystal goblets. Dialogue strikes a fine balance between courtly elegance and raw emotion, and the alternating perspectives keep the tension taut. A leaner middle act would have increased the pacing, but overall the narrative flows smoothly, polished by attentive editing.

Strengths of Mystics of Fortune lie in its immersive world-building and complex moral questions: Should we fulfill or defy our prophecies? The novel’s exploration of power, choice, and sacrifice elevates it beyond standard fantasy fare.

Verdict: A captivating blend of magic and machination that will appeal to fans of political fantasy and character-driven adventure. I award it 4.5 out of 5 stars and heartily recommend it to readers craving a story where every vision carries the weight of an empire’s destiny.

This is a great book for both adults and teenagers. The rubber band method is great for focusing your mind on something else besides bitting your nails. Both Male and female can benefit from the information provided in this book. I give this book a 5 star rating. I am going to try this method for 21 days myself.
