I know exactly what you mean- i used to be addicted to buying books almost every week when i was in town- anything that caught my eye went in the bag, from a nice cover to the latest horror. I used to justify it buy saying to myself that ill get around to them soon when in fact a lot of them just gathered dust, only to be read years later. And many of them i regretted buying when i got home. I had this silly notion that i had to be buying and reading the 'next best thing' to keep up with current trends but it only hit me when i did up a budget and found out i was spending literally hundreds of euros on books every month. So i copped on and limited myself to 2 a month and have put my money into savings for (another!) holiday, so thats the advice i would give you.Gannon wrote:My vice is buying books I cannot really afford. I love collecting first edition signed books. Now one every now and then is ok, but sometimes I get on a site and find some beautiful books and then bam bam bam I have bought them all. Weeks later I get the bill and arrrrrhhhhhhhh. This is a serious vice and I have to break it before I am living in the gutters. It really is an addiction, I can't seem to go by a book that I love without buying it.
There is life after impulsive buying, believe me.

I had the same vice in the beginning of the year but it didn't work out. I'm hopeless.

Thanks SKM that is some good advice. I am going to try and limit myself to one signed first edition a month. I know what you mean about trying to keep up with "the next big thing". I live in a small town that does not have a decent book shop so I do all my book shopping on the net. There are alot of book sites that I search to buy books. The problem is overload. There are so many books that you see and in the past I would buy them. My TBR list is about 20 books long and growing. I am going to try and take your advice one signed and two normal books a month and I am not going to buy another book until I get my TBR list down to a couple of books. Thanks, fingers crossed I can do it.StephenKingman wrote:I know exactly what you mean- i used to be addicted to buying books almost every week when i was in town- anything that caught my eye went in the bag, from a nice cover to the latest horror. Does a girl with a dirty mind really want to be left in peace?GotThatSwing wrote:Poor Fran, no way you'll be left in peaceC0ldf1re wrote:It is usually the quiet girls who have the dirtiest minds.laci_baby wrote:Aww poor Fran! That's like saying you don't believe in buses, so you can walk across the road blindfolded without fear. Without fear, yes; without danger, no.BookWorm617 wrote:... This is why I love being an Atheist. I can do whatever I want without fear!!...

Uh no bad bad analogy!! How can one not believe in buses. I can easily see/touch/smell/hear a bus. I can't see/touch/smell/hear god. What I meant about not having fear is fear of going to hell for sins.C0ldf1re wrote:That's like saying you don't believe in buses, so you can walk across the road blindfolded without fear. For damnation you must yearn,BookWorm617 wrote:... I can't ...smell... god... therefore I cannot sin or go to hell...
For you can sin and go to hell.
There's something that you did not learn:-
Proper Gods don't have a smell.

You have embraced the Dark Side. You must burn. (Nothing personal, of course.)BookWorm617 wrote:...sounds like a dark Poetry to me.C0ldf1re wrote:For damnation you must yearn,BookWorm617 wrote:... I can't ...smell... god... therefore I cannot sin or go to hell...
