Nah, I'm just messing with you - none other than the famous JASPER FFORDE.

Fran, I think that quote was made by the lady with the eyes, Bette Davis.

How about.....

HOLLYWOOD IS A PLACE WHERE THEY'LL PAY YOU A THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR A KISS AND FIFTY CENTS FOR YOUR SOUL.

Ah the delightful Marilyn Monroe

Now try this one ...

Hey Fran first Thatcher and now Winston Churchill, I think you have a thing for strong outspoken English leaders. :)

How about....

NEVER LET THE FUTURE DISTURB YOU. YOU WILL MEET IT, IF YOU HAVE TO, WITH THE SAME WEAPONS OF REASON WHICH TODAY ARM YOU AGAINST THE PRESENT.

Fran, I actually know this one without having to look it up. I think it was Stalin, and didn't he live by that quote. Stalin was unbelievably paranoid, but then again I suppose he had to be. I remember a passage from a book I read about Stalin quite awhile ago now. It was about a man who worked in a tank factory, one day he used the wrong piece or wrong tool (something like that, I can't remember exactly) and was executed as a german spy. The charge was sabotage.

How about...

I'VE NEVER BEEN TO NEW ZEALAND BEFORE. BUT ONE OF MY ROLE MODELS, XENA, THE WARRIOR PRINCESS, COMES FROM THERE.

I believe that that quote was made by someone who is very famous for painting a roof. Could it be Michelangelo.

Hey Fran, I did not know that one but after looking it up I found it. Lawrence Oates. I read a little bit of his history. In context one of the best quotes I have heard. What an amazing act of sacrifice. It is stories like his that warm my heart and show us how strong the human spirit can be. Heros still exist, and his was the ultimate heroic act.

How about....

ONE LIFE IS ALL WE HAVE AND WE LIVE IT AS WE BELIEVE IN LIVING IT. BUT TO SACRIFICE WHAT YOU ARE AND TO LIVE WITHOUT BELIEF, THAT IS A FATE MORE TERRIBLE THAN DYING.

Agreed Captain Oates was indeed an extraordinary man.

That quote was by Joan of Arc

Now try this one:

I think that that quote was made by the very controversial Sylvia Plath. Never knew much about her either. Fran you are opening my eyes to a myriad of very interesting characters. So tragic that she took her own life. Maybe if she had been born in this era more help may have been available to her.

How about....

Since when has a rock bent to the wind?? Although I quibble over the choice of words, they were spoken by one of my favourite historical Tudor leaders, Queen Elizabeth I.

Here is one for you all, who said:

Bit of a dilemma on that one Maud .... seems it could be either H G Wells or G B Shaw (I'm going with Shaw anyway as he was Irish or as we say here 'One of our own'!)

I do believe that it was Henry Ford. Maud I think Queen E was saying that she is a rock. Then gave the explanation that a rock does not bend in the wind. I don't think she was saying that she was a particular rock that was special and did not bend in the wind. Does that make sense? :) She is one of my favourite leaders from history as well.
