Do you know which part of Ireland you were from, or if you still have any relatives there? When I went, I connected with some distant relations and it was amazing. I found it very strange to see that there was still a physical resemblance after several generations had gone by. If you can find some family there, maybe you could go for a visit.

needcowbell wrote:@ Carla. How about Nassau, indeed. I was there once. You could drink on the beach(we paid $5 for a case of Heinekin,
it was duty free back them). The most popular bar back then was The BoomBoom Room. Once every set they
sang "Yellow Bird", a song about a British girl who has hepatitis. Carla, how do I do it?

Very very carefully, I presume.

Hello dindin...like the new name though...I can almost hear Christopher Walken saying it!

"What This Thread Needs is More Cowbell."

How to dance with a diseased woman...you don't. And the yellowish bloat prohibits hug dancing, anyway. And stop calling it vacay! IDK...I hear that Gideon's is really one of the #1 ways...or signing a book deal.

(~get it together and back on topic, Carla~)

Running away...my best friend and I were having this very same discussion yesterday. Both of us finished with winter. Only 56 more days until Spring! Morning coffee and chat. Where by the goodness of the great Gazoogle we looked up the beach closest to the equator and came up with Diani Beach...sugar white...turquoise water...mind the "camel muffins"...palm trees. And only 4 miles south of the Equator. Throw in an umbrella drink and phone the airlines :D

I need a cruise so bad. Or at least a glimpse of the ocean. I'd settle for that. I'm a bit too landlocked in Illinois for my sanity.

Corpus Christi and South Padre Island...The sound of the waves breaking against huge rocks in the Gulf...and a fine salt spray blowing back on the warm breeze...possibly the best steak i've ever eaten (of course I haven't tried Kobe yet so the jury is still out)...the smell of warm leather and equine as we ride horses on the beach in the wavewash and the sound of the saddles creaking. A bonfire on the beach at dark and the popping and crackling of the driftwood and smell of dried kelp burning. My first taste of tequila.

Okay...that's better :D

Running away...how about Savannah Georgia and across 19 to Tybee Island :) Live oaks thick with Spanish Moss. The fountains, benches and street musicians of Forsyth Park. Sax drifting on the morning air. Wisteria climbing up the face of the Williams House. Brick streets and the garden squares. A ride on the street car about Savannah Proper. A quick trip across the grassy waterway sprawling like a...well...savannah. Dotted with shrimping boats in the pink misty light...toward the Atlantic coastline. Breakwater and pier stretching out into its chiily water. Seagulls feasting on blue eyed hermit crabs washed up in the tide pools on the beach overnight. And the smell of lamb roasting...wafting up from the BEST Greek restaurant up early beginning their day before the lunch crowd.

YES!!! I went to Savannah once years ago and it is one of the places that has stayed with me. It's definitely a place for a slow down kind of escape. I have this really clear memory of waking up very early and going to the Tybee Island pier to stand in the water and watch the sun rise over the ocean. It was a bit like magic.

Today I would run anywhere above 70 degrees...it was supposed to be a "light dusting" of snow...more like several feet added to what was there to begin with...and I don't get out till 10:30.

:D Yes. Did this myself. The morning breeze blowing streams of sand across the beach and the dawn was this beautiful pink and gold. My last trip to Tybee was an April one so it was still off-season and chilly in the mornings...and the Atlantic was numbingly cold!

Magical place!
