Re: The Quote Game

Too easy Gannon .... that was Nelson Mandela

Now here's one ...
'We thought her dying while she slept, and sleeping when she died'.
We fade away, but vivid in our eyes
A world is born again that never dies.

Nice one Fran, I had real trouble with this one, I had to once again google it. I believe it is from a poem called "The Death Bed" written by Thomas Hood.

How about....

A GOOD SKETCH IS BETTER THAN A LONG SPEECH.

Similar to "A Picture is worth a thousand words". :)

That's gotta be ol' Napoleon Bonaparte, eh?

Now try a lick of this:

Hey there Gurkavitch, nice quote, another one that I had to look up on good ol google. It was made by Jean-Luc Godard.

How about....

NEXT TO A BATTLE LOST, THE GREATEST MISERY IS A BATTLE GAINED.

Sticking to the same era. :D

That was the Duke of Wellie ... your hint kinda gave it away Gannon.

Now this should be a little more challenging:
“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.”

That's-a Bertrand Russell (one of the few quotes i enjoy saying)

Here's another I enjoy sayin':
"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die."

Neil Gaiman said that. It always reminds me of actors saying they became actors to overcome shyness.....

And for you: ONE OF THE GREAT DISADVANTAGES OF HURRY IS THAT IT TAKES SUCH A LONG TIME.

Howdy there Maud, that quote was made by G. K. Chesterton. As to its meaning, I would guess that it means the more we hurry and rush about the longer it takes to get what we are trying to do done. Time seems to move at different speeds. Have you noticed if you are doing something you love or enjoy time seems to fly by, however if you are doing something that you do not like, time really seems to slow down. A good example is say you are waiting in line at the doctor's. You don't know it but your wait is going to be an hour. If you have a good book that you are engrossed in, that hour can seem like five minutes, if you have nothing to read or watch that hour can seem like two or even more. Time has not changed, in both cases it is an hour, but the way our brain has perceived that time period has changed.

Is that the right answer Maud. :D

How about....

GENTLEMEN, WHEN THE ENEMY IS COMMITTED TO A MISTAKE WE MUST NOT INTERRUPT HIM TOO SOON.

Still sticking to the napoleonic era. :D

Horatio Nelson! (I had to look up the last name. It just never seems to stick with me)

Now, let's take a little leap from that era and head on over t'dis era:

"From the moment I picked your book up until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it."

Ahaha, I was going to use that as my next quote but you stole from right under my nose. It's P.J. O'Rourke

Now let's see if you can get this:

"Oh Lord, help me to be pure, but not yet."

That was St Augustine - had to google it though, it's a great quote.

How about....

I think the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades...or a game of fake heart attack.
