Taxation!

Post by knightss »

I'm starting this thread because the 'drug' discussion seem to be leading us into other areas (i love when that happens).
Anyway!

People complain about taxes frequently.. yet, for the wrong reasons i believe or maybe it's the fact that their money is being squandered. Either way, taxes aren't going away. The fact that we owe around $3 trillion dollars to other countries isn't going to help that... i think because Bush wanted to continue his war, he didn't raise taxes, he relied on outside sources, such as China, to supply the money for his war. Now we owe trillions of dollars to other countries.. how will that be paid off? By increased taxes after the war is over.. HURRAY!
Kae got me in the mood to rant, i apologize lol.

Also, with the current 'war' we are in.. we are spending so much money.. don't people realize if we put a quarter of the money that we did into funding this war into assisting foreign countries with their economy and education, terrorism would certainly be reduced? The terrorist are generally people who come from a background of extremely poverty with little education.. when the see the disgusting way that American's are living, it drives them mad. Put yourself in their shoes.. they don't even have clean drinking water which causes thousands of deaths among children. There are diseases that American pharmaceutical companies have the cure for yet rarely do we intervene in aiding foreign countries.
Bush denied to join and global search/ban on land mine use... thousands of people and children get killed by land mines.. all other countries signed the ban.. Bush didn't because they were effective.

War will only lead to more war! What happened to philanthropy?
It doesn't have to be kill or be killed.. it could just easily be save and be saved.

alright, my rant is complete i believe
let's hear yours =)

Philanthropy went to the circus with chivalry and hasn't made it back just yet

How??? By working to death our middle and under middle class citizens...and most Americans Knightss don't have money to squandered.
Lets see it for how it really is. I'm sadden by what is going on in other countries, I am ok. But look at what is going on in our own "backyards" Americans are swimming...nah, we are drowning in debt!! Foreclosures on homes..families living out on the streets...look at New Orleans!! Give me a break!! This is America!! What is going on here!!

And terrorism I'm not too sure we will ever get that under control no matter what we do. War has been around since the beginning of time.
Sure we hate it...nothing good comes of it..but its there. Radicals will always exist. If you are in a position in your life to help outside of the US, then by all means do so. But lets start here as well. Be a Big Brother for a kid whose parents are sitting in jail, go visit the elderly..read to the illiterate..if you can be a foster parent..give back...VOLUNTEER your time!! Thats why other countries hate us...geesshh we don't even love ourselves!! Your right about one thing we are disgusting at best.

I totally agree! My dad was born in Ireland during the troubles (which I've mentioned to Derek before). I remember being surprised that the Irish were discussing peace. And, my dad said to me, that of course they would be considering peace! If you are no longer hungry there is so much less to be pissed off about!

Food, clean water, vaccinations and medicine are aspects of our daily lives. Yet, these are considered luxuries to the majority of people in the world! No wonder they want to kill us. Well, I don't know how many of them want to kill Canada, but that's not really the point.

Also - this is my totally revolutionary / heretic idea. But, I personally think that Bush should be considered a war criminal and should be punished for breaking the geneva convention. He asked the UN if he could invade iraq and they said 'hell no' and then they did anyway

And of course we are going to complain about taxes!!! You bet your arse we will, we work hard..so many of us are losing everything that we have worked so hard for..our brothers and sisters are being killed in foreign countries WHY?? Because most of them couldn't afford college tuition and they are told by Uncle Sam to sign here...go there. And when you get back..when you serve your country we will paid for you to go to college...they don't mention you might not have your arms and legs when you get back or all your brain for that matter.

That was why I joined up, the Army promised me a great college education. Promised me that there would not be a war. The day I showed up for basic training, my drill sgt. was shipped to Iraq. My sister-in-law was in Afgan. and was one of the first ones in. She came back with her arms and legs luckily though. Some of my other buddies from basic I have not heard from them in a while. Scary.

I highly respect those who put their lives on the line to protect their families at home, but i hate the feeling that people might be dying unnecessarily... dying in a war that could have been handled in a different way.

If any of you get the chance.. and interesting book to take a look at (pretty quick read too) is Seven Sins of American Foreign Policy. It shows the history of the U.S. and why we are viewed the way we are in the world. It covers Washington to the present Bush.

I've read it, very interesting and thought provoking read. And I have nothing but LOVE for those who risk it all, not just overseas...but everyday heros, right here. It takes courage to take risks. I admire your courage Knightss, pardon me Derek, for just doing this right here. Making people aware. Putting it out there! Courage  And I wasn't disagreeing with you...you told me to rant lol so there you go! and thank you for making me more aware...we tend to forget when we get caught up in our everyday.
