It may be anathema to discuss movies on a book board but since this thread exists I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

As mentioned on another thread, my favorite movie of all time is The Red Violin, closely followed by Cinema Paradiso.

Other movies I like very much (entertainment value to me, not necessarily highest quality) include:

1492: Conquest of Paradise
Gettysburg
To Kill A Mockingbird
Heat
Ronin
Troy
The Producers (the original)
Enemy At The Gates
Life Of Brian
The Pirates Of Silicone Valley
Saving Private Ryan
Bram Stoker's Dracula (Cappola version)
Predator
Munich
Deep Impact
Ed Wood
Fargo
My Cousin Vinny
Master and Commander - The Far Side Of the World
The Prestige
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
One Flew Over The Cookoo's Nest
The Lord Of The Rings (entire trilogy)

My best movies are:

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (from Walden Media.) I saw the first film at the movie theater with my parents, sister, and cousins when I was eleven. It was so cool :D. Prince Caspian; the second film, isn't as accurate to the book as I'd like it to be, but it still has some great scenes and the acting is really well done.

The Nightmare before Christmas (Tim Burton). My sister and I love the whimsical characters and songs. My favorite song in it is "Making Christmas".

movies I can watch over and over or at least once a year:
The Hobbit
LOTR
Shrek
It's A Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol
Kung Fu Panda

I liked movies like Saving Private Ryan, but I am not going to watch that once a year or every other Friday.
Green Mile, also excellent, but intense.

Also if I watch a movie it usually has to be family friendly, not too gross, violent, etc.
(we often fast forward the battle scenes in LOTR and watch all three movies in less than an hour  )

Those are all great movies. Altho Ive never seen Kung Fu Panda or Shrek, the others I have seen several times. I think the best Christmas Carol movie was the one with Alastair Sim. It came out around 1950 or so. I want very much to see The Hobbit, but Im going to wait until all three parts come out. I cant see paying 25 dollars for half a movie.
