Great riddle! I would never have guessed "bananas" from the first clues; but actually, all the clues were applicable.

The Marathon clue kept confusing me. I didn't know about the funny and creative costumes some people wear during the race so I couldn't reconcile it with ideas I had gotten from the other clues.

Yeah, apparently some dude ran the marathon dressed as a banana .
