How this forum makes me feel so far.

If I take an online class for college there is always a "discussion" part of the assignment. A common requirement is that I post my assignment (usually one or two paragraphs) and post to at least 2 other posts. Now, I understand it is to promote discussion but I generally find it easier to find something to discuss if participation was not required. I feel like it is an obligation to come up with something and it makes the discussions feel mediocre and unreal. That's just my opinion.

HOWEVER I noticed that a lot of you are really insightful, nice, and intelligent. When I am posting here, I feel like I am actually contributing to the discussion. It is true what they say about book lovers :D

I admit it - I am here because I have always wanted a network of friends who read and I have learned a lot and read some amazing books I had never heard of before.

Meeting people from all over the world who read has been so interesting!

I kinda miss some of the older crowd that used to post here, people like Fascist, Laci, Tip the Bottle and a few others like Teesie. I know the nature of forums mean people move on and change, but the forum has a generally older population than when it started. Nothing wrong with that, some great discussions on here, but a more even age spread would be nice. As in any forum, there are one or two here that definitely like the sound of their own voice and can be irritating to read. Overall though the forum retains its friendly and fun vibe and I hope it continues that way. Its still the only place I would come to read about or share any horror book I have read or get opinions from others. But we need more people and more young people :P

Hi Mike, long time no see.
I agree it is a pity some of our long established posters have vanished of late but as you say it's the nature of forums. I have to disagree with you on the age profile though - from the tone of some posts there are quite a few members here who are definitely much younger than me (and as you know I'm in the first flush of youth myself)!
Good to have you back, has the reading bug reappeared?

I'm only joking about Mike for what he said in his post, I am sure he is not an ageist. I don't know whether he is an atheist or not. Being a good Irish boy I don't think he would be an Atheist. Mike if you read this let us know. :D
