Thoughts of folding the corner of book pages?

Though many readers may hate it, I have seen a number of people who fold the corners of book pages to use as a bookmark. Every time I crack open a public library book, I find those creased corners.

Does this bother you? If all those people were reading this forum right now, what would you say to them? Or are you indifferent to these doings?

I would definitely not be able to do that, I feel like it ruins the pages of the book. I also enjoy buying different bookmarks so I use those to mark the pages. The only time I would find the creased corners interesting is buying used books from book sales and seeing which pages seemed to be re-read the most.

I personally don't like "dog earing" the pages because the creases don't go away and it can get confusing as to which page you actually left off on, especially when rereading the book. I also think folding the corners makes the book wear out quicker and is a shame if you plan on donating the books when you are done with them.

I fold the page when I can't find a book mark. And now it's become a habit.

I personally don't like it at all. I feel like it ruins the essence of the book.

For some reason, I would never do this with a book I'm borrowing! With books I own either, I don't like to do this. However, when I was in school I studied in litterature and we read tons of books and then I did not mind folding the top corners.

I habitually fold, not the end though, I fold like half the page, a perfect triangle.

I don't like it. I find it disgusting. It takes some responsibility not to fold corners.

Never! Never! Never! I try to take excellent care of my books. I always use a bookmark, a piece of paper, a business card, a photo, or at least something to mark my spot!

I don't like to do that and I don't like to see other people doing it. It ruins the pages, they stay with Mark forever. It's like the book has a scar.

I don't mind that, it gives a well-used and loved look to the book.

For whatever reason, I hate ruining books. It's like a hot knife stabbing my chest. I enjoy seeing books that are still as tidy as they were when they were at the bookstore. Perhaps this is another reason I don't buy them at all. I don't trust myself to keep them up.

I prefer using bookmarks. Folding the corner of book pages makes the book look untidy. The pages are creased, and it is hard to uncrease the page.

I agree with those who say that they don´t like.

I use scraps of paper or expired credit cards as bookmarks.

Well, I don't love it. But I do fold the corners if it's a book where I can learn things. For a pleasure reading, I absolutely hate it and need a bookmark.
But I'm ok with people doing it... on their books.
