I'm a big fan of John Grisham (who isn't) but in his books he often refers to Grits and Biscuits. What are they please?
Are your biscuits what we call toast? A slice of bread that's been, well, toasted!
And I have absolutely no idea of a Grit.

Grits are ground corn meal served as a porridge mostly in the southern states. They are usually served at breakfast, but they are also served as a side at other meals with various added ingredients like cheese, onions, shrimp.

Grits are polenta, except that grits are most often made from white corn and polenta is made from the yellow corn. This gives grits a lighter flavor. They are most common in the American south (I'm from the Midwest and had never heard of grits until I moved to Florida). It's basically white corn meal that is boiled (just like you cook polenta) and usually served with some salt and butter. I love them.

Thanks you lot. Seems to me grits is basically like our porridge and biscuits.... well im still not sure.
Im saving up to visit America again next year so unless an American millionairess sweeps me off my feet before then and whisks me off to the states to live a life i want to become accustomed to, i will definately try them next year.
