Any readers that are allergic to paper? If so, how do you deal with that?

I myself don't touch paper anymore. Except when I really have to like when I get constantly runny nose lol

I've never heard of that. Maybe it's the chemicals some companies use to make paper? Perhaps try a book that clearly says it uses natural/eco paper and see if that helps?
Then again it could be that your eyes are tired.

Really? Wow, I've never heard of that either. I don't think reading can make you allergic to paper though, unless your skin is sensitive to a certain material or chemical.

I don't think the act of reading a book could make you allergic to paper simply because many people are allergic to print ink and how the paper is treated, the bleaching chemicals. Also, you can be allergic to paper mites in old books. My suggestion would be to wear cotton gloves and use a saltwater nasal spray or invest in an eReader.

Read as you usually do, but don't touch the book....( use tongs to turn the pages )....this may be the only instance of a " kindle trumping a book "...

Actually, I have switched over to using the Kindle, and I also read a lot using Kindle for PC. I totally understand the love of the 'look and feel' of a paper book normally trumping any electronic device for reading.

I've never heard reading making you allergic to paper. I would think that maybe TOUCHING the book specifically could cause a reaction, but that doesn't make sense either unless you hold the pages while reading. If you do have this allergy, I'm very sorry to hear that! P.s. I loved the pic of the toilet paper roll on head lol.

I am not allergic to paper myself, but I know some people that are. Yeah and that roll of toilet paper on the head was pretty funny. Even that wouldn't help me much sometimes.

I'm pretty sure that you cant be allergic to paper. You never know though. I hope you get better soon!

Very misleading title to this topic. I would imagine its touching paper that is the problem not reading - that said, I've never heard of anybody being allergic to paper or print but no doubt it's possible. I would imagine if you read without touching the paper (gloves!) it would solve the problem.

I agree with @gali: move to e-books.
I agree with @Fran too: the problem is the paper not reading. But allergies can be affected through smells and sniffing too, so gloves might not solve the problem. Anyway, you should go to see a doctor. If you're really allergic to paper you should check if you're allergic to something else too.
