Are you allowed to curse and say inappropriate things on this site? Not like really mean to some when just sometimes you reply with the word penis or something are you not allowed to? :oops: :shock: :lol: :mrgreen:

Well, I imagine it is the same as most forums - you can probably say low level swear words like crap - a comment like "I thought the book was total crap" - probably wouldn't get moderated - but "I thought the book was f***ing crap" probably would. (in fact I know it would as I just tried to post this un modified :wink: )

Posting silly posts saying Penis, dick, vagina for the sake of it would probably get removed.

Posting the word penis in itself in an appropriate context would be ok, such as a discussion on a hypothetical book "The history of circumcision in religious cultures"

Odd question - what are you planning on posting? :?

I don't think so and rightly so.

@Tayla
This is a book and reading forum therefore it is not unreasonable to expect anyone posting here to be able to express their opinion without the need to resort to cursing, profanity or abuse. If you can't then I suggest you read more & expand your vocabulary.
As Aussie-reader has pointed out above, context is everything. Posting profanity or vulgarity for the sake of being controvertial, attention seeking or just to annoy other members (or the moderator!) will certainly get you a permanent ban from the site.

I don't like the way I worded that and don't know how to edit it but whatever. I mean for the book I was going to review which I am not though anymore. It did require some inappropriate words because that is the only way to have described some parts of the book. O.o

It would depend on the context in which you mean by cursing? Sometimes books can make so angry, I want to use a bunch of expletives that I know would be considered inappropriate, however, using some small curse words like "hell" or "damn" I don't think would be a problem, but in actuality, I don't feel there really is a need to use them at all, seeing as how there are so many great words you can use to tell your point exactly.

It seems the consensus is that low level curse words are alright- hell, crap, damn, etc. I'd imagine words that can be taken in other contexts might be as well? F-bomb is probably out, but we don't really *need* that to communicate our sentiment, do we?

I agree with Aussie-reader too. Unless you need that sort of vocabulary for context sake, you should avoid it. If you aren't completely certain and it's the case you have to use it, you should write a note stating it and apologizing in advance. That is what I would do.
Now, cursing words actually make part of what I call "expressing vocabulary" and have levels, as some have already mention: If you recognize them, then I think you should be fine. Still, if it's the case you're struggling with it, I advise you the same as Fran: read more and expand your vocabulary.

If one was to do so consistently, and a moderator noticed--it may result in removal from the site.
