The door's open. Do you step through?

I love books where people from our world are randomly dumped into a fantasy realm. Barbara Hambly's Time of the Dark series. Ru Emerson's Night Threads saga. So here's the question. Think about your favorite fantasy series. For the next ten minutes, a door is open to that world, and you can step through, but that's it. Once the door closes, you can't come back. Do you step through it?

If I can't come back, I won't step through it tempting as it is. I don't like to burn my bridges...

I would like to, but, if I can't come back, then no. Too bad its not a vacation doorway, fun place to visit, good to be home.

It would certainly be tempting but I would have to think on what i would be leaving behind. If I could just prop the door open and then come back? I'd go. ;)

Yep, easy decision if you can visit and come back. That's why I said no return -- to make it a harder choice. I'm evil like that.

 He wouldn't want you to step on him either! But you can see how totally relaxed he is, with my camera about 18 inches from his nose. If he were the least bit concerned, he'd have his head tilted up a bit in an alert posture, but he's just resting and watching me calmly. Still... I'm extremely experienced with this species, and this is a snake I was familiar with, on a den where he felt secure. So no walking up to strange rattlesnakes and saying that I said it was okay!

I'll just take your word for that OK - thank God good old St Pat looked after us & we only have to worry about the human snakes. (I'll stick with my beautiful, serene swan)

Yep, like the song says... "St. Patrick never came, and the snakes they still remain. The slither on their bellies to the Dáil!"

If it's a fantasy series and you were the main protagonist, who wouldn't? I'd love the opportunity to leave and not worry about what's left behind.

Tempting, but probably not. I'd miss my family and dogs too much. Now, if they came along, heck yeah!

I think taking the dogs is totally fair.
