A few years ago, I pronounced falafel as "FAL-uh-fell" because I had never heard the word said before; I had only read it a few times, never looking up the correct pronunciation. (It's "ful-AH-full, in case you're wondering.) What word have you pronounced incorrectly because you're more well-read than well-conversed?

Super embarrassed to admit it, but until recently I (26F) always thought colonel was spoken as it was written and not as "kur nuhl". I've always been proud in the fact that I'm well read and therefore am usually the one correcting my husband's grammar and teaching him new words. Let's just say that he got a good chuckle out of it recently when that came to light.

For me, it was inventory. I was playing an old PC RPG game as a little kid, and so the word "inventory" came up a lot. I always thought it was pronounced, "in-VENT-ary." Nobody ever corrected me, and even now, I occasionally have to stop and think about it :D

Raleigh. I worked at a call center and said Ray Lee. I was corrected by a person that lived there. It was Raw Lee.

Also, being southern I always say crayons as "crowns" when speaking. My friend from the north kept telling me it is pronounced cray ons. :lol2:

weirdly I used to always mispronounce amazon. I first say it like a-maze-un then realize its pronounced ah-muh-zon. I don't know where I got the first pronounciation from :lol2: :lol2:

I'm just now realizing that falafel is pronounced ful-AH-full. It sounds so strange
