Popularity?!?!

Okay, so when scrolling through the forums, I constantly encounter topics that were just posted 'a minute ago' and already have hundreds of views and replies. How? When I post something, I get ecstatic when it reaches 10 views.
Could somebody please shed light on how people are so popular on this site?

It is mostly the topics that are popular and not just the poster.
If you keep participating and answering posts, you will be as popular.

For me it's all about RESPECT, which trumps popularity...case in point: " The Kardashians "....
