First Line in a Novel Game

Here's a fun game I found for those interested. Here's how you play: You write out the first line of a novel and see who is the first to guess the author and title. If you feel generous you can give a multiple choice answer. (I personally, like giving people a few books to chose from as some lines can appear in similar forms in several books.) After someone guesses, they can post a new line for others to guess. My only request is to please come back and post the correct answer to your first line after someone has guessed.

Below is my example:

“In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.”

1. Edith Wharton, House of Mirth
2. F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
3. Truman Capote, In Cold Blood
4. Paul Auster, Sunset Park
5. James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time

I will take a guess and say it is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
