There are some really wonderful, badass female role models out there for young people now.

Williams I agree! Granted I am only 37, but even when I was younger I don't remember so many kick ass girls. Sherah was my idol, personally, but she wasn't real.

I do love my strong female protagonists. Often my dream women too. Tolkien was genius but did not produce nearly enough half decent female characters in his most famous works.

I agree Czech he did not. In fiction as in fact, the stories told are primarily the stories of men.

Did you approve of Peter jackson's amendments in both trilogies? I found eowyn's 'i am no man' pretty cringeworthy. But arwen was a fine use of a character stuffed way back in appendices. Despite the scant screen time she outshone Legolas imho.

I understand what he was trying to do, but I thought he was basically beating us over the head yelling "look at how well I understand feminism! "

Just thought liv Tyler was quite good in the role and gelled very well with Viggo Mortensen.
Miranda otto didn't go on to big things post lotr as I'd have liked but now is in the new season of homeland, so that's something!

Liv Tyler is just so beautiful I don't particularly care what's she's doing.

She stood around and cried. There's only so much even Meryl Streep could have done with that role
