2012: is anyone here following this?

December 21, 2012 marks the end of the "4th Age" according to the ancient Mayan calendar. Now that it's only a few years away the subject is beginning to filter down into the mainstream. Part of the Mayan prophecy concerning this event is the expected return of their God, Quetzalcoatl, who some researchers have suggested may have been an incarnation of the same spirit entity previously incarnated as Jesus, the Christ figure of Christianity.

Another interesting, and scientifically verified, event coinciding with this date is an extremely rare celestial phenomenon wherein our solar system will come into alignment with the center of our galaxy. Apparently the ancient Mayans were aware of this. How they could have known such a thing is a mystery.

Also curious is the fact that this event will occur at precisely 11:11 GMT on 12/21/12. For those who may not know, the digital display of 11:11 has been a topic of discussion for many years among those in the so-called New Age community. Some contend that 11:11 is a kind of code associated with terms such as "ascension" and "consciousness raising".

Is anyone here following this 2012 phenomenon? And if so, what - if anything - of an unusual nature do you think might occur on or around that date?

I have been doing some research regarding this. Seems not only the Mayans were onto this particular date in time. I have read that the ancient Egyptians as well have noticed this change of age.
I am sure it does have more to do with the celestial phenomenon than anything.
I have also read that some scientist actually believe their calender did not end in 2012. They say there are several cycles after that.

Imo, it is simply a changing of age. Maybe it could be a religious event, but I was taught we would not be able to predict the second coming of Jesus. That is just my opinion though.

2012 - what might happen?

Right. It does seem that other cultural traditions have prophecies regarding 2012 - or if not 2012 precisely, then at least somewhere in that same time frame.

You're also correct that the Christian tradition holds that the return of Christ cannot be nailed down to a specific date.

Regarding the continuation of time cycles following the end of the current cycle (in the Mayan system) on 12/21/2012 - that does seem to be the case. However, at least as far as I've been able to determine, it seems the Mayans didn't carry their calendar out beyond that date. But their system of measuring time was, in fact, based on the notion that time is not a linear progression but rather cyclical in nature. When one cycle ends another begins. The question then is why does their calendar not continue beyond 2012? I have a speculative answer to that question. It's just an idea that occurred to me and it has to do with a few of the other things that will be happening concurrent with this same date:

(1) The alignment of our solar system with the center of the galaxy - a phenomenon so rare that I believe has not happened in the entire history of mankind's presence on this earth;
(2) The cycle of sun spot activity on our sun peaks in 2012.
(3)The Winter Solstice (12/21/2012) occurs at precisely 11:11 UT.

Items 1 and 2 above are scientifically verifiable events. Item 3 is also scientifically verifiable (at least according to information that I've read) but this item number 3 also has more of a "New Age" and metaphysical interest as well.

It is not clear what the effects of the galactic alignment might be as far as the earth is concerned. Some are saying it could have the effect of causing a shift in the earth's magnetic poles.

The idea of the peak sun spot activity (which we already know can affect and interrupt electrical activity on the earth) in conjunction with the possible effects of the galactic alignment might have more than the usual effects - perhaps in ways we cannot imagine.

The time stamp of 11:11 fits in with the "New Age" notion that 11:11 is a kind of code, a sign, that is intimately connected with the idea of "ascension" and "expansion of consciousness".

Taking these three items as a combined whole, could suggest a remarkable answer to the question posed above. Maybe all of this works in such a way that our earth (perhaps our entire solar system) will shift into a completely different dimension, thus rendering any time reckoning system literally moot. Any measurement of time after that event would simply be irrelevant. Part of the Mayan prophecy, as I understand it, says this date marks the end of the world not as in *Poof!* - gone - lights out - game over - but rather the end of the world "as we know it".

There is one more thing to add to this speculation. I recall that those who were involved in the CIA's "remote viewing" program (Project Stargate, I think it was called?) were allegedly able to occasionally get glimpses into the future. However, they claimed they were not able to see anything past the year 2012. Isn't that interesting?

It'll probably be just like today...nothing special. The world will still exist, everything will be exactly the same.

I can't wait for the movie 2012 though lol.

I gotta agree with the writer posted above me. Its gonna be another day, nothing special going on. Every night some "once in a millennium" thing happens in the galaxy regarding some star alignment, its just not that exciting.

I'm not all worked up over this after the disappointing, uneventful millennium countdown. I do tune in to Coast to Coast to monitor the latest paranormal and extraterrestrial activities where they've featured proponents of the Mayan calendar theory.

I'm not worried about it. People have been predicting the end of the world ever since they realized that things are finite and that nothing lasts forever. If the world ends on December 21, 2012, then it ends. Nothing I can do about it.

may be an alien invasion or the end of the earth will come on that date.

I think it will be the start of an ice age... :)

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the part about our solar system at the center of the galaxy is an indubious impossibility. At the center of our galaxy (and most all galaxies for that matter) is a black hole. Being there would not be fun :? And the pictures I've seen show our solar system about halfway from the black hole and the outer edge of the galaxy.

EDIT: Just researched a bit a found this. Far more likely...

"In 2012 the plane of our Solar System will line up exactly with the plane of our Galaxy, the Milky Way. This cycle has taken 26,000 years to complete. Virgil Armstrong also says that two other galaxies will line up with ours at the same time. A cosmic event!"

Well it seems that this topic has been hotly debated where ever I go. Although I'm not a believer in this subject, but one thing which I always do is to make sure that every day is utilized to the best of my ability.

I didn't expect to see this here, and I feel a bit scared to post, given Gary Val Tenuta's thoroughness. Very interesting viewpoints from everyone...

I doesn't really need to be repeated, from a Christian perspective, the end times cannot be predicted, though there are various indications that will foreshadow the general time, and if anyone wants to outline some for anyone, it's going to have to be someone a lot more scholarly in the Bible than me.

I had not heard about the Egyptians recording anything about this date, but the Mayans, astronomical geniuses, definitely did. However, I have heard both sides - that its the end of all time, or simply the "reset" point for their calender. The latter seems a bit more likely...

There's also that bit about Nostradamus supposedly having 2012 marked as the time for the end. I'm not sure how authentic those documents were ultimately found to be, but creepy, nonetheless.

If I were to buy into the idea that the special galactic alignments already cited (unarguably remarkable) would produce unimagined and catastrophic (or just very effective) changes in our gravitational poles, dimensional shifts or whatever else, I would need more documentation from some established physicists. Such a change would have nothing to do (at least directly) with supernatural entities, feathered serpent or otherwise, but established physical law, at least to begin with. I'm not advanced enough to speculate on how that could or could not occur, but I would probably be able to follow if someone presented some research. But I find the concept iffy, at best... alignment with other bodies could only produce effects through gravity, I think, and gravity decreases in strength very, very fast as you increase distance. A special spacial orientation doesn't seem likely to produce so special an effect at the distances we're talking about. (By the way, are we certain the alignment has never occurred before? I was under the impression it had, supposedly only once)

As for the possible works of supernatural beings, this topic doesn't seem the place to argue the side of Christianity or any other faith, and any attempt to do so would have no effect on any readers anyway, so it's rather irrelevant to postulate the logical advantages of one or the other regarding 2012, only how each relates, but again, Gary has done a very good job at that bit.

In the end, my conclusion for my own going-on-with-life purposes is that a remarkable galactic occurrence will take place, and will pass, hopefully without some lasting ill effect. I personally don't much buy into the coincidences with New Age meaning or whatnot, since there's always been a winter solstice, even if its date of 12/21/2012 is a little eerily coincidental. After all, some of this knowledge has obviously been around for centuries, and if some knew of it before us, some may have decided these events must signify something, and given them meaning, and then we know about it. In other words, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Did someone come up with these "meanings" for numbers and suddenly the workings of the galaxy happen to match, or did someone know about the numbers and assign them meaning, and now we get the story in reverse order? No offense to anyone, I simply find myself very skeptical of such things. You do see a lot more books about 2012 SINCE the idea became more well known, rather than published long ago and up till now simply languished in obscurity. Still, at worst, we have a few years to see if anything new arises. At best, I hope to have a long, full life.

Tey thought of time a round. It does not end, it just starts again. Nothing will happen.

I didn't even know about this until I was having a very intellectual conversation with a random person in a chatroom (which is very rare because people in chatrooms are pervs these days). I've tried doing my research and reading on it but it's all jumbled to me. It doesn't make the situation any better that you have movie directors making dooms day movies such as 2012 and Knowing when these ideas began to circulate. All I say is that we just have to sit, watch, and wait.

I don't think it's going to be anything special, people are just going to live their lives and I think most are going to forget anything was supposed to happen. I think the earth is still going to be alive and well!
