For me its entertainment and information. I have read books that were considered garbage by critics and other readers, but if they entertain me thats all I care about.

Entertainment, amusement, knowledge, inspiration, hope, diversion, awareness of diversity, determination, marginal grip on sanity & a healthy respect for the human condition.

I take the only thing from the books - every book shows me that there are not so many good books on earth. So it would be better to take some morals from them, but I'm not in early age.

Fear and the debate about the supernatural if its a particularly well written horror book, and also a wealth of information about other cultures, other countries and people, plus tourist attractions!

A re-read of a favourite book is for me the same as meeting up again with an old friend ... a couple of minutes in and it's like you've never been apart. You know you're on the safe, comfortable territory of mutual understanding & there will be no surprises or shocks ..... exactly what I need when the world has thwarted me (again) & I'm feeling sad or vulnerable or just in need of a little TLC. My favourite book is my proxy security blanket
