How to effectively remove price tag?

When I remove the tag, there is always a place where the stickiness remains. Before you know it, it already collected some dirt.
Anyone knows how to prevent this?

Metal labels are often worse than paper ones, too.
Try nail polish remover, methylated spirits or eucalyptus oil in small amounts. Use soft cloth or cotton bud and test the area first. Plastic may melt under certain solvents and colour may be removed as well as the sticky residue. Failing that, stick a pretty decal over the top!

This might sound silly, but I take the sticker where there's some sticky left on it or a piece of really sticky tape, and I stick it back where the sticky didn't come off and then jerk it back off. Do it rapidly over and over and the sticky on the sticker/tape will pick up the sticky left on the book. Sometimes it takes a little while but it works without having to use any kind of liquid and risking damage to the book.

WD-40 is good for that. Just spray a little on it and it will wipe right off. It is good for many things, Ive used it to clean greasy cooking areas, black shoe marks off of tile floors, Ive even sprayed it on worms for fishing, you will catch more fish.

What I do is (this might seem weird...oh well) I blow dry the sticker so it's easier to remove, and if there's still extra sticky stuff I use a clean eraser and that gets rid of it pretty well.

Same thing that removes candle wax and chewing gum, ICE CUBES, believe it or not...

I peel the tag off as carefully as I can and then whatever remains I remove with a wet wipe. (They're not wet enough to spoil the book but sufficient to clear away the sticky bits, and they don't damage the colour because they're predominantly alkaline.)

Good idea, ALynn. Sounds logical to me.
Suzy, ice cubes work great. When I used to clean carpets we used dry ice to take gum off.

Supposedly ice cubes also fix the carpet where there is an indentation left behind after furniture is moved. You just plop a cube into the depression, and as it melts it is supposed to fluff the carpet back up to normal height.

If you have an old roll of masking tape, and it comes to pieces when you try to peel a strip off, put it in a microwave for about 10 or 15 seconds and it will work fine.
