I recently went and saw "Ragtime" a musical that was performed on my campus. I have to say that it was an amazing play.

For those of you that go see plays what are your favorites.

The Crucible (i've seen performed various times, anything Arthur Miller is usually spectacular)
Rent (was good)
Shakespeare's plays (i'm not a fan of modern settings in the portrayals of shakespeare)

I hate you right now derek. you saw rent. i love that movie and i a know all the songs. my prof was in new york last week and saw it. im so jealous. that is definetly a play that i want to see.

The only way I can currently get my hubby to take me to the theater is to see musicals... We saw Cats just before Christmas, and Joseph the time before that.

My favourite.... Hmm. I really enjoyed some of the Sheridans I saw when I was at school, The Wives Excuse, etc. I loved The Importance of Being Earnest. Back to musicals, we saw Blood Brothers by Willy Russel a couple of times, and even trekked into London to see the West End cast do this one!

All time favourite has to be Bouncers by John Godber. I have seen this multiple times, the only snag being it has to be done just right, with actors of incredible talent. If the cast is just a millimeter off, or the director tries "something new" it really dies a death. When done well this is a spectacular piece.

yeah, i actually saw it years ago, i was 15, i think. i also went to the prerelease of the movie, i had free tickets =)

I just found out some really depressing news. RENT is closing in June. I will never get the chance to see it. I mean it is going to be in Grand Rapids, where my school is, next month but i don't have that kind of money to spend on the tickets that are left. They are $166 each. I mean that really isn't that bad but still i can't afford it.

I've seen a lot of fantastic plays and musicals. I used to go a lot, but haven't been in some time.

My favourite musical I have ever seen is The Producers. I also love South Pacific, Bye Bye Birdie, Hello Dolly and Godspell.

Non-musical plays, the best I think I've ever seen was Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, starring Miriam Margolyes (Professor Sprout from the Harry Potter movies among other things) and William McInnes.

The Importance of Being Earnest is another fun one. The Blue Room was incredible (starring Sigrid Thornton and Marcus Graham).

I am sure there are more.

I saw Rent about 8 years ago. I loved it. I went and saw The Phantom of the Opera this past weekend actually here in Omaha. It was great. Mama Mia is coming to Omaha in two weeks but I don't think I can make it but I wish I could!

When at university I tend to go to the theatre about once a week. My favourites recently have been The Changeling by Middleton, a favourite play of mine anyway, and 1984, which I expected to be rubbish but was actually fantastic.

knightss, I totally agree on modern settings for Shakespeare, and yet anything else is so incredibly rare. The only Shakespeare production I have ever seen that wasn't modernised was Measure for Measure in Stratford, and to be honest it was poor anyway. Shakespeare seems to be so easy to do, but near impossible to do well..

I saw the following on broadway: the phantom of the opera, wicked, hairspray, altar boyz, spamalot, moving out, and the spelling bee

I've seen these put on by other companies and highschools: jesus christ superstar, le mis, the pajama game, seven brides for seven brothers, aida, children of edan, joseph and the amazing..., beauty and the beast, suessical, state fair, and back to the 80's

I think that I am missing a few, not to mention numerous others i've seen on video.



my favorite so far is Jesus Christ Superstar.

I love seeing plays - they are so fun.

Has anyone been to the Festival of Shakespeare in Canada? It's awesome!!

I've seen Phantom - it was amazing, of course. I've heard Wicked is really good and The Lion King - both I want to see badly... and A Midsummer Night's Dream among others....

I saw Julius Caesar when i went to Harvard...only it was set in the year of the Kennedy assassination...Caesar was pretty much John F. Kennedy...it was weird because they updated everything and kept the Shakespearian dialogue but the music was amazing and they played an Arcade Fire song so i dug it.

I've also seen a production of The Philadelphia Story and it was quite good. It was right at my school and the cast was all students from my school's massive theater acting major.

I also saw The Lion King on Broadway and that was amazingggggg.

oh and i hate ALL rent songs and my friends torture me and sneak them onto mixed cds in the car butttt thats too bad about u not being able to see it!

i saw a production of a clockwork orange. Which was the most surreal thing i have ever seen. Mainly as all the leads were women, and they got naked alot and made out. So twas basically live lesbian soft porn.

For some reason, I prefer watching plays starring students or youths rather than professionals. Perhaps it's because I usually see plays with younger people if I have some personal connection to someone involved with the play.

I love plays, I've been in a few myself. I seen alot of the plays already mentioned, I have tickets to see Sweeney Todd in May. I work for a company that gets alot of different tickets to plays, concerts and amusement parks.
