Music has always played a major role in the movie world, one of my favourites is Adaggio For Strings by Barber, it was in a Vietnam film, Platoon I think,and it was perfect for the scene. What are your favourites?

Agree ... and add my all time favourite Michael Nyman's score for The Piano

Mine is "Ai De Gong Yang".
It is a Chinese Song.

Yes, the music on Last of the Mohicans is unforgetable. Many films can be instantly recognised by the music alone,......
JAWS and Psycho spring to mind. Sorry Fran, The Piano is still on my list of "musts".
Don't think i've heard the Chinese one either

I have not heard the score for the Piano either, but seeing as though you are very good at recommendation, I will give it a listen. This will sound very corny but when nobody is around I like to sit in a nice comfy chair in the middle of the room close my eyes and listen to the Last of the Mohicans at full volume. It is amazing, music has a real power to it. It lets your spirit soar and you feel like you are in your own world as the music crashes over you. I know that sounds so corny but give it a go sometime and you will know what I mean.

Hey there Fran I just got the score for the Piano off youtube and streamed it into the stereo and did my "sit in the middle of the room turn up full volume,etc " thing. I was blown away it is beautiful I still have a buzz from it. Thankyou so much for bringing it to my attention. Now I am going off to listen to The last of the mohicans.

I do something similar to your 'middle of the room' thing ... in the car, on my own, at full volume. My revenge on the young fellows with the 'thump, thump, thump' racket!

Ive always been a fan of soundtrack music, among my favorites are, Searching For Bobby Fischer, Superman, the one with Christopher Reeves, The first Star Trek movie, Anatomy of a Murder, Duke Ellington's music is awesome, Les Baxters Master of the World, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Country, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, Man With the Golden Arm, and a little-known movie from 1950, Ferde Grof's score from Rocketship XM. And the greatest one of all, in my opinion, altho its not a movie its the super-cool Richard Rodgers score from the TV series Victory at Sea. The original score from that was 13 hours long.

I like your style Gannon, will give the centre of the room a go soon.
Bighuey, that Superman score is great, and what a broad range your likes spread to, you must have one hell of a memory,my memory is terrible, I can't remember half the books I've read, maybe because they were dull.

@ Ant, Ive always liked soundtrack music ever since I can remember. Another great film composer was Bernard Herrman, he did The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jason and the Argonauts, Psycho, Gulliver's Travels, Citizen Kane, Farenheit 451, The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Journey to The Center of the Earth, the version with Pat Boone, Mysterious Island and several Alfred Hitchcock movies. One I forgot to mention is Ennio Morricone, his Man With No Name spaghetti westerns with Clint Eastwood and Once Upon a Time in The West, and Mission to Mars were fantastic.

Got to add the Vangelis soundtrack to Chariots of Fire

Nice one Fran, how about those Burt Reynolds films,..country & western style, and Clint Eastwood (another mention for him Bighuey) alongside Sondra Locke,ah some catchy tunes there.

And what about ..... Cavatina from The Deer Hunter (sublime!)

Love it, a haunting tune, really suits the film and adds to it in many ways,......memorable.

Vangelis, another good one. All theirs were good. Ive got the Vangelis soundtrack on cassette to Thief, its good too.
