In Australia it is Remembrance Day.
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we have one minute of silence to honour all those who lost their lives in wars. It started way back after the WW1 (red poppies are sold to signify the fields of Flanders) then went to WW11 and now it pays tribute to those soldiers of more recent times, Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan conflicts, who died in battle. Everyone stops, stores, businesses, schools, radio stations, etc, and they play the Last Post.
Very touching, very sad.

Very much of the same here Maud, it is our chance to remember the people who gave their lives in times of conflict so that we can have the freedom that we enjoy today.

As Maud says, today is a very important day for us aussies. Our whole nation stops for the minute and we remember all of our soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Wow! It's Veteran's Day here in the US too. I never new that other countries did it on the same day as us. That's interesting. Here it's a day not only to remember those who died in war, but to honor all those who participate or have participated in our Military, wether they fought in war or not.

Very moving, very sad.

It was also Heavy Metal Day.

"Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven."

So I'm rather late about that date, but anyway jusdt wanted to mark that there were a lot of weddings that day.
I don't believe in the magic of numbers, but hope that life of young couples will be sweet and wonderful  .
