Do you believe in ghosts?

I believe in ghosts. Does anyone disagree? There is much evidence that they do exist. Here is a true story I have taken from a book about Yellowstone ghosts. Maybe you'll believe after this.{I like a good debate}

The Haunting of Old Faithful Inn
The Phantom Child

The youngest and the newest spirit to take up residence is that of a boy. Every summer, thousands of families visit Yellowstone National Park. No vacation is complete without a traditional stop a Upper Geyser Basin to spend a few hours walking around the thermal area and watching Old Faithful, the world's most famous geyser.
After the eruption, a brisk walk through the old comfy inn is a must. It's dun to sit and relax while the inn's huge clock ticks away or take in the awesome view of the geyser basin from the second floor observation porch. But look out for the little phantom child.
The strange little ghost is peculiar in fact that unlike a typical apparition(if there really is such a thing as a typical apparition), he only appears in the day. He is about three or four years old and stands three feet tall. He is wearing shorts a tee shirt and Keds sneakers. You won't see him coming but you will suddenly feel his presence. You turn around there he is.
He is lost, he tells you, he can't find his mommy or daddy. You ask him his parent's names... but he will tell you nothing. So you ask him his name..and still there is a silence. Then you decide it's time to get help. You assure the little boy that everything will be all right as big tears start to run down his face. You take his little hand and start for the information desk. When you arrive, you explain to the clerk that this little boy lost his parents, and as you both look for the child holding your hand... he has disappeared into thin air. Feeling embarrassed, you try to explain. But an explanation is not necessary, because this is not new. Our phantom has been trying to find his parents for more than thirty years. He has appeared to hotel guests as well as those who have just stepped in for ice cream. Of all who have seen the boy, three things are constant,he seems to have an accent, he haunts only the second floor mezzanine, and only appears once to them.
In fact, many have gone back to search for him, but he is nowhere to be found

I don't believe in ghosts. Not one bit. I know there have been a lot of 'claims' of sightings, paranormal occurrences, visitations and sure some of these have been 'verified' by so-called expert investigators. I'm not trying to deride people who do this for a living, it's their job and people can do whatever they want, but it still wouldn't convince me. You could call me cynical (which is likely) or a sceptic (which I am definitely) but I won't believe it until a ghost comes knocking on my door.

That being said, I do enjoy a good ghost story. Something based in the realms of fiction is always an entertaining read, I just don't expect that to seep over into real life.

I am sitting on the fence on this one. I don't really believe in ghosts, but I keep a very open mind. Years ago I worked in an old hotel which was supposed to be haunted by this ghost of an old lady. Just about everybody who worked there had seen her except me. They all had stories of where and when they had seen her. I would love to have seen her and change my belief in ghosts, but alas I never saw her.

Yes, yes I do. I believe in ghosts, spirits and everything else. My mother always said that their is no such thing. But spirits are all around us. It's what I believe, I don't really believe in that sighting thing. But I believe in the forces, and sometimes you can just feel that there is a presence when you think you're alone.

I agree with Gannon. I dont really believe in them, but there have been strange unexplainable sightings by reliable people. It may be that when some people die, some of their personality stays behind, especially if they were a strong willed person. I like to read about things like that, but for me it is just good escape literature. A religous friend of mine claims ghost sightings are the work of the devil. Could be.

Put it this way, I'd like to believe in ghosts because that would explain a couple of strange things which have happened in my life. If ghostly souls do roam the earth, I'd also like to believe that they are benevolent.

Not so long ago, I read a book entitled "The English Ghost" written by cultural historian Peter Ackroyd. He states that the English see more ghosts than anyone else. In England each district is haunted by its own supernatural spectres and they range from door-slammers and shriekers to a violent strangler and a moaning child who rumour has it spooked Wordsworth’s nephew. When I think of the noxious substances which freely abounded in homes a few centuries ago, e.g. arsenic, mercury, lead, snuff powder, perhaps that may have contributed to such sightings.

I think these have been the main reasons that such phenomena has been debunked.

The one thing I can't stand though are people who play on the miseries and loss of other people. So-called clairvoyants and people who claim they can talk to the dead and then making a profit out of it. Giving false hope to people is just shameful imo and I guess it's because I've heard and read more about these fraudsters than I have of anyone genuine that makes me sceptical.

Yep. And my mom really wishes they'd leave her alone!
Kidding...sorta...I do believe in ghosts, though, and my mom does talk to 'em all the time. Or she thinks she does, anyway.

I wouldn't worry until they start to answer back ... then she's got a real big problem

Theres a couple from Salt Lake who hunt ghosts. I heard them on a local talk show one time, and they said they set up a tape recorder in cemetarys and come back later and listen to the tapes. They said the hear weird stuff, voices, things like that. I tried it in the old boot hill cemetary in the town we lived in, I turned it on to record, this was about midnight and came back in the morning to see if it picked up anything. It ran about 2 hours before the batteries ran down but all I got was deer and rabbits running around. I told my wife they were ghost deer and rabbits, she said I was nuts. Oh well, I tried.

Oh, but they do...her boyfriend's house is rife with 'em. A young German couple in the house...satan in the barn.... She's pretty into that kind of stuff. Or maybe she's making it all up. After all, how would I know?

My sister-in-law and her husband always saw ghosts and demons just about everywhere. I could understand why they did, they were druggies. Thats a good excuse I guess.

Oh, yeah, well....that might be the deal with my mom, too. She's not a HUGE druggie, or anything...just kinda walks around in a cloud...but still. I'm open-minded. 'Cause you never know what you don't know, y'know?
