1. Generally, hyphenate two or more words when they come before a noun they modify and act as a single idea. This is called a compound adjective.
and
2. When a compound adjective follows a noun, a hyphen is usually not necessary.
Some grammar checkers will flag a compound adjective in #2 if it is not hyphenated, but it is often not required in this case.
Here are sentences using your two examples:
This well-edited book had no flaws.
His classwork was always well done.
