Commas and Coordinating Conjunctions (Full Guide with Examples and Sources)

Some grammar rules (and embarrassing mistakes!) transcend the uniqueness of different regions and style guides. This new International Grammar section by OnlineBookClub.org ultimately identifies those rules thus providing a simple, flexible rule-set, respecting the differences between regions and style guides. You can feel free to ask general questions about spelling and grammar. You can also provide example sentences for other members to proofread and inform you of any grammar mistakes.

It shows that many times 'and' is a substitute for 'comma'.

IF you're a native speaker of English, you can hear commas in speech, and when you do, you should use them. They represent a Mid-Low-High-Mid intonation contour, like you get when you count: sixty, sixty-one, sixty-two, sixty-three, .... It's easy to recognize and if you're a fluent reader, you're probly hearing it when you read, anyway. So just listen for it.

Some commas are NOT objective errors, since they are easily identifiable and clear grammar rules are set about them. This is verifiable. When you have two sentences that can stand on their own and are connecting it with a conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so), you must put a comma on the word before the conjunction. Every university will verify this.

Where do I find the subjective commas then? As well as where to check if a word should/shouldn't be added based on opinion? I've found that due to editors discretion that if they feel a sentence needs a word added it can make the entire sentence wrong where points will be removed accordingly. However what if the sentence was already fine and due to this it is now wrong? Is there a topic for this?
