I'm at a point where I'm second thinking myself...

Let's say your talking about a king, would it be written like this?

Roman King
or
Roman king

The "King" (in capital) gives reference to the supreme King.

In the UK educational system one is taught that specific kings are capitalized as proper nouns "The King". Referring to an unspecified member of a generic group, "king" is not capitalized. Similarly, in referring to a specific author the term "Author" should be used.
