Comma Around Parenthetical

Hi,
I recently wrote this line: "Even now, my little Bean is lying by my laptop screen, making sure I’m near, because she just wants some love and attention today."

I meant "making sure I'm near" parenthetically, adding unnecessary information to "lying by my laptop screen," and thus put a comma both before and after the phrase. I did not include either comma due to the "because" because "because" does not require a comma before it. Was I wrong to include the commas?

It is fine to have the commas around the parenthetical element “making sure I’m near.”

Ok, thanks for that reassurance!
