Is this an error?

Post by Chelsea_Martin34 »

Hello all, and thank you in advance for anyone who comments.

I recently submitted a review in which I was flagged by multiple editors for grammar issues. I am confused as to why my grammar is incorrect.

Here is an example:
“Brimstone attends a school for magical enlighten students.”

The editors flagged enlighten as incorrect, and said it’s supposed to be enlightened. However, an enlighten is a supernatural being, like an orc or ogre. So enlightened is not the proper word in this case.

In my review, I do say that enlightens are a type of being.

This issue costed me heavily and I received many 0 out of 40 score cards in the grammar section. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Hi.

I am happy to give my 2 cents on this one.

“Brimstone attends a school for magical enlighten children.”

It seems that you described enlightens thoroughly in your review, and I don’t see why your usage is in error. It may have been accidentally flagged because the use of this word in the review is different from its more common meaning. With proper supporting documentation in a recheck request, you may get this error removed, but it sounds like there could be other scorecards involved. I’m not sure how much improvement removing this one error would be to your overall score if there were other scorecards with 0 out of 40 in the grammar section.

Sometimes, I have found solace in knowing I was correct even if I did not submit a recheck request. :)

I hope this helps!

I used the word “enlighten” more than a couple of times, and unfortunately, the editors who flagged me for a grammatical error each time.
I will do what you suggested! Thank you. My review was published, but I just hated to get such a low score for something like this.
