Do not know if "is" is needed

One of the books I am reading has the quote "I find keeping this observation in mind motivating." I cannot seem to find if "is" should be inserted between "mind" and "motivating".

I think including the verb 'is' would be subjective. As it stands, the words 'keeping this observation in mind motivating' is a gerund phrase and including the verb would change the phrase to a noun clause.
My general rule is that if I can't find a reliable site to support an error, I don't include it. Errors can be challenged by the author and lead to a dispute.
