Should there be a hyphen in this sentence?

Post by Horvath Tibor »

A woman can select a donor that appears to have above average qualities in particular areas, such as intelligence and physical attributes.

The rule goes, ''hyphens are necessary when they function as a compound adjective modifying a noun.'' In this case above average is the compound adjective, and qualities is the noun. Should there be a hyphen?

Yes, it is a compound adjectives. There's also a rule, search for the meaning of it's hyphenated version and see if it fits the context.
(I found this advice here:https://www.grammarbook.com/blog/hyphen ... een-words/ )

Like here's a dictionary link: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictio ... ve-average
