Encompassed of many things or encompasses many things ? Which one is write ?

"Encompassed" suggests that you are speaking of something that has already happened. "Encompasses" suggests a state that currently exists.

The novel encompasses a period between 1604 and 1875.
The novel exists now.

Peter The Great's life encompassed the period between 1672 and 1725.
Peter The Great's life is over. It is in the past.
