Delved or Dove

Is the following sentence incorrect?

"As I delved deeper into the book, I saw the reason behind his claim."

I lost a point because the editor thinks the correct form is 'dove' not 'delved.'

Delve has a related term as dolven. And it simple past and past participle is Delved. It conveys the meaning of digging into something when you put it into a sentence. But Dove is a way different thing from delve. Dove is a noun giving names and living things. You check it for yourself using a dictionary.

"Dove" is also the past tense of "dive" and it seems far more likely that the editor had that word in mind, rather than the homonym which refers to a type of bird.

It seems like the editor was not familiar with the word "delve" and assumed Tommy meant "dived" (and further believed that "dove" was the only correct past tense of "dive").

I had to look this one up too. As in 'Matthew dove to the floor.' I thought it should have been 'dived', but it is an acceptable word.
