I think this is an error, can you help?

Some grammar rules (and embarrassing mistakes!) transcend the uniqueness of different regions and style guides. This new International Grammar section by OnlineBookClub.org ultimately identifies those rules thus providing a simple, flexible rule-set, respecting the differences between regions and style guides. You can feel free to ask general questions about spelling and grammar. You can also provide example sentences for other members to proofread and inform you of any grammar mistakes.

I think this is an error, can you help?

Post by Alissa Nesson »

In a book I’m reading for review is the following:

He was it; autistic.

I think this is an improper use of a semicolon. My understanding's is that both sentences separated by a semicolon need to be full, grammatically correct sentences in their own right. The single word , “autistic”, doesn’t qualify as a proper sentence with a subject and a predicate. Am I correct here? I don’t want to say this is an error if I’m wrong.

Thank you to anyone who can help!

There are several ways to punctuate this, but a semi-colon is not one of them.

I believe that isn't the right punctuation. I don't think a semi-colon is needed in that sentence.
