Too long sentences

The book I'm reading currently has sentences way too long. This does not occur once but occurs very often. Should it be pointed out in errors that the sentences could use some commas? Before and after suggestion:

As the story goes, despite being a drunken bum he was a good provider, at least in the beginning.

I have read several books where there are tons of run-on sentences. I always list them with the correction underneath. If it is just an occasional missing comma, you can still list it at the bottom, but put it under uncounted errors.

I belive a book should be able to make use of appropriate punctuations. You can add that to your review.
