After finishing the book: A well spun tale of the tangled webs we weave. Murder, sex, drugs, and mystery are all woven together in the lives of these poisonous wives and their death dealing lovers. A few glaring errors mar the landscape, along with numerous little ones, and although they are obvious, the story holds more than enough momentum to carry the reader past them. Overall, an interesting read with a twist of an ending that is sure to surprise. Three out of four stars, errors notwithstanding.
I enjoyed reading your review! I personally found the twist at the end a little unrealistic. I wondered if that part really happened. Since the book is based on a true crime scandal, I wonder if the author totally made up the character of Tom's girlfriend or if she was based on a real person.

Thank you Owlie, I get your feeling on the ending but I went into the book assuming the story was one only based of of the true events so it didn't bother me. I did get so caught up in the action of the trial that the ending took me almost totally by surprise and I applaud the author for that.

I agree that the ending was very surprising. I just figured the author would wrap things up with the trials.

Did you all have any issues with the salacious details? I thought some were a little out of place, but overall they didn't bother me.

The salacious passages didn't bother me, although I agree that some of the details were unnecessary. I think it gave a good sense of the wives' motivations for murdering her husbands. Obviously, money was a major factor, but a lot of these women just wanted freedom. I actually thought some of the sexy parts were funny in a campy way.

Good, I'm glad it didn't detract, just seemed odd at times like I'd stumbled on one of my grandma's romance novels ha ha.

HA HA HA! Grandma's romance novels!!

To me, it didn't detract because it actually was the centralizing theme. (Of course, I'm still only on page 98.)

Page 44 scandalized me, just a little bit. :o

Hey bookowlie great review:) I just started reading the book. I usually steer clear of books that contain cheating or deceit or cold-heartedness in general because they get me angry or depressed way too much, but your review made want to give this one a shot. I will tell you what I think if I did finish it;)

I also am not a fan of books that contain cheating or cold-heartedness. In this case, I enjoyed the book because of the murder conspiracy and the fact that it was based on true events.

Yes the focus was on catching the criminals, not lingering on their heinous acts. And it highlighted a lot of their criminal stupidity which I loved.

I think the only reason they were caught was due to the Asst. DA's detailed detective work. It didn't seem like the Coroner's Office or the various husbands' doctors were suspicious.
