Overall Rating and Opinion of "The Wicked Wives"

Please use this topic to discuss your overall opinion of the July 2015 book of the month, The Wicked Wives by Gus Pelagatti.

How do you like the book? What do you like most about it? Do you recommend the book to others? Why or why not?

I'm only on page 98. (For those of you not in the know, I'm a painfully slow reader.) I like it so far. The wives are so wicked that it makes my blood run cold. So many different ways to kill your spouse! (Now, there's a recommendation for a book!)

I hope they get theirs in the end. And that tailor too. My goodness, the tailor.

So far, I'm on track to finish it by December, but all the same, I'll probably give it four stars. It's so freakin' scandalous and juicy.

Wait, I'm not too far into this book and already I'm confused. I hope it's just me. First they say Lillian's uncle is Deputy Mayor Bill Evans, but then when she meets him in his office, he is referred to as her husband's uncle. If he was her husband's uncle, her husband's mother sure didn't seem to act as such, and if he is her uncle (without being too much of a spoiler) then eww gross

I'm having a hard time finding that reference, but my take on it was that they weren't blood relatives. For example, I'm related by blood to my aunt (my dad's sister), but not to her husband my lifelong uncle. But yeah, I hear ya!

I know, but no I truly think until someone re-reads that first part and tells me I'm wrong, that that part of the story was written incorrectly. It's a little disorienting actually, distracting from an otherwise interesting story.

The book mentions that Deputy Mayor Evans is Lillian Stoner's uncle several times, but I don't think it stated if they were blood relatives. I assumed he was her uncle, not her husband's uncle, since Evans refers to her as his niece.

Page 18 everyone, just went and found it. Not trying to be overly critical but it really had me suspending thought until the next chapter because it was driving me crazy ha.

That could be true, but her husband's mom did not act like she knew him as a family member. Either way though it's not a big deal as long as it's not an issue for a majority of readers.

If it's her husband's uncle, couldn't he be related to her husband's dad?

Yes Zelda, but the husband's mom should have known him as family regardless of how distant if that was the case. It's ok, I don't want to hijack this thread, so we'll put this to bed

I'm fine with it if you come to me with an answer to this Pelagatti mystery. I'm a little over 50% and so far an involving page turner with only two glaring errors and other minor spelling and issues and such. I really like it.

After finishing the book: A well spun tale of the tangled webs we weave. Murder, sex, drugs, and mystery are all woven together in the lives of these poisonous wives and their death dealing lovers. A few glaring errors mar the landscape, along with numerous little ones, and although they are obvious, the story holds more than enough momentum to carry the reader past them. Overall, an interesting read with a twist of an ending that is sure to surprise. Three out of four stars, errors notwithstanding.
