I think because I love singing I get easily distracted so I prefer not to listen to any music while I'm reading

I prefer music with no words when I’m reading, which I find hilarious because as a teenager I would put on headphones and crank up pop music while I read. My brain now could NEVER!

When I listen to music while reading, I like it to be instrumental music. I like to listen to Bossa Nova whether or not it is instrumental. I usually turn the music down so it is just background.

When I was young, I would almost always have music playing on the radio when I was doing my school homework. These days I cannot focus on reading and/or writing when there is music playing or a video playing or any type of noise close by.

I prefer reading in silence. if i do play music it will be because I cannot focus and then i am likely to play binaural beats for focus :D

I can go with whatever music I happen to like at the moment when reading. Writing frequently requires me to switch to instrumental music or turn the music off, however, so when a book inspires me to take notes, I'm turning my music down or out.

I probably should give up music altogether for better focus, but I like tuning out obnoxious background noise as that really grinds my gears. Music has also helped me get through miserable experiences in my life so it's hard to give up.

Soft jazz is often a good choice.

Generally speaking, I need absolute still silence when reading or writing. But, sometimes I like the humdrum of gentle background music, usually just instrumental or sounds of nature
