Songwriters???

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

Not too shabby - I dig. I'm a songwriter too but it's hard to get myself to show them to anyone unless it's for constructive criticism.
As for you, Huey, with a splash of a good tune, I say you're on the run with some good listenin'.

Ive written a few like that, kind of silly but fun to fool around with. I put it on a tape, we were messing around in a camper, half-swacked on brandy with beer chasers. I was singing and playing the ukelele, another guy was playing a guitar, and another guy was beating on a beer can with a couple of sticks. At the end of each verse this other guy would make noises like a pig. It came out pretty good for a bunch of drunks.

But I bet you had to be drunk to fully appreciate the art

 :) :) @ Fran, you had to be loaded for this stuff to sound good. But sober it sounds pretty.... Terrible.  Heres another bit of silliness I made up, its called My Daddy.

When I was just a lad, barely turned 17,
My daddy took me aside and told me son,
We gotta have ourselves a chat,
Im goinna tell you where its at,
We goinna have us a talk
About your financial obligations.

When you was just a pup
I started to figure it up,
Just how much it costs to raise a kid,
Now that youre full grown
You gotta pay back your own,
You owe me ninety nine thousand dollars and ninety nine cents.

I gotta pay my daddy back
And that sure is a fact
Sometimes I curse the day that I was born,
I dont know where to start
To pay that rummy old fart,
He can take it and put it where the sun dont go.

He wants him a Cadillac
And a mansion on the hill
I sure do think hes got rocks in his head
He thinks hes gettin it all back
Hes got it all figgered out
The old man wants it all back before hes dead.

Ive written these classics in a notebook, I call it Music To Vomit To.

Freddie Mercury...
Freddie Mercury is best known as the rock worlds most versatile and engaging performers and for his mock operatic masterpiece.

Music and Poetry is an album by jazz bassist Charles Mingus. In spite of the title, the album does not contain any poetry. Scenes in the City", however, includes narration performed by Melvin Stewart and written by actor Lonnie Elders with assistance from Langston Hughes.

Heres a songI made up in about 1980 or so.

Wasteland
Were living in a wasteland of shattered hopes and dreams
The things we want when we are young will never come to be
We always dream of better things but it seems as time goes on
This old world has passed us by and everything is gone.

We all have asparations of reaching for the stars
But our hopes are crushed and shattered before we get that far
But a man needs dreams to try for to make his life worthwhile
Cause theres no point in living if you cant go out in style.

When I was young I had ideas of being a famous man
But all the years have slipped away like worthless grains of sand
Now Im in the autumn of my life and my time is almost through
But I hope Ill soon be in a place where all my dreams come true.
